Huawei has unveiled the P50 Pocket globally, a clamshell smartphone with a 6.9-inch display when unfolded. The P50 Pocket also has a 4,000 mAh battery, four cameras and a Snapdragon 888 4G SoC.
The P50 Pocket has a 6.9-inch OLED display when unfolded and a 1.04-inch secondary one above its camera housing. While the interior display peaks at 120 Hz, Huawei caps the secondary display at 60 Hz. Incidentally, the interior panel operates at 2,790 x 1,188 pixels, and the exterior one at 340 x 340 pixels.
Also, both displays are powered by a 4,000 mAh battery that supports up to 40 W fast charging. Below the secondary display sit three rear-facing cameras: a 40 MP primary sensor, a 13 MP ultra-wide and a 32 MP telephoto camera. Additionally, Huawei has included a 10.7 MP selfie camera that peaks out from a punch-hole in the device’s interior display.
Huawei powers all these components with the Snapdragon 888 4G, currently the most powerful SoC that Qualcomm sells with a 4G modem. As it stands, ongoing US trade sanctions prevent Huawei from using 5G modems in its devices.
So far, Huawei has only announced P50 Pocket pricing in China, where it starts at CNY 8,998 (~US$1,410) with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. By contrast, Huawei has priced the 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage variant at CNY 10,988 (~US$1,724).
