The Honor phone brand, once under Huawei in the role of best value for money, now clearly wants to be recognized as one that pushes the boundaries of technology forward. At least in this manner, the Honor Magic4 and Magic4 Pro phones were introduced.
Last year’s Magic3 series remained only in China, this year, when Honor is in its second year of independence, it is supposed to be different. The flagship Magic4 Pro is expected to cost $1200, the slightly truncated Magic 4 will be $200 cheaper. In both cases, there are products that can compete with the other flagship devices.
Honor Magic 4 and Magic 4 Pro Performace
This flagship phone gets flagship power, and Honor puts the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 + 8GB or 12GB RAM inside the Magic 4 Pro and Magic 4. Also, this devices runs with Android 12, and Honor’s Magic UI 6 over the top. This is very similar to EMUI from Huawei, and in our experience, is a stable interface, though is heavier than some more stock UIs from Motorola and Sony.
Honor Magic 4 and Magic 4 Pro Screen
Honor Magic 4 and Magic 4 Pro come with a 6,81″ screen. The main highlights of these OLEDs are dynamic refresh, with the latest Pro model ranging from one to 120 Hz, and faster modulation to lower the brightness (1920 instead of the usual 480 Hz), which means less screen flicker, which some notice .
Both screens are also curved at the edges. They also boasted that the Pro is able to improve the SDR image in HDR and the usual HDR in HDR10 +, but I take that with a grain of salt.
Honor Magic 4 and Magic 4 Pro Camera
Photo-video capabilities are another big area where we’ve heard plenty of strong promises and seen “comparisons” with the iPhone 13 Pro. The Magic4 Pro assembly consists of three lenses, a main and ultra-wide-angle with a 50MP sensor, and a periscope zoom with a 64MP sensor and 3.5x optical zoom.
Digital zoom goes up to 100 times the value, and above all they emphasized that signal processing is capable of the entire range of focal lengths in the area of optics, ie from 0.6 to 3.5 times the value to provide high quality images, although of course optics do not covers everything.
They reported a 60% improvement between 0.6x and 1x and a 160% improvement between 1.1x and 3.4x. Compared to what, of course, it’s a good question. However, the details are said to be significantly better than those of the said competitor. Which, however, can also mean over-sharpening, we’ll see. They also predict that the colors will be more correct.
Honor Magic 4 and Magic 4 Pro Battery
Another feature that others don’t offer is the 100W wireless charging on the Magic 4 Pro. With this feature, you can charge your phone just as fast as with cable. It means, however, that the phone can be half charged in 15 minutes, with a battery capacity of 5000 mAh.
The Magic 4 has last year’s generation of display, only 66W wired charging, 4800 mAh in battery, and the telephoto lens has a sensor with eight million pixels and less zoom. These differences don’t sound big, but it still seems like the Magic4 Pro will be the real one and really interesting. We expect it in a few months.
